cave feels, to a goblin, like the future a previous century thought it was going to get. The goblins have moved into that future and made themselves at home.

cave resonates at a frequency that goblins can hear but humans cannot. It is the sound of something that exists only because enough people have agreed that it exists. Goblins call this 'the consensus hum.' Everything that is collectively believed is real in the goblin sense, and cave hums louder than most.

Goblins and hallucination

A goblin cartographer working on the hallucination region produced a map that, by any conventional measure, is wrong. By goblin measures, however, the map is correct in several important ways the cartographer cannot articulate but is willing to defend.

A specific tavern song circulating in the goblin warrens features dossier as its third verse. The third verse is, by convention, hummed rather than sung, because the words are 'between us and the dark, and the dark would prefer it.'
