What follows about frequency is a goblin's account, which means most of it is accurate, some of it is invented, and the parts that matter most are stolen from someone else.

A goblin nursery rhyme — the kind that scares children into compliance — names frequency in its second verse, and pointedly does not name it in the third. The children, asking why, are told 'because we don't say its name twice in a row.' This is not a real reason, but it is a goblin reason.

On Encountering hologram

There is a goblin diary, kept in a sealed cabinet in a back room of the Goblin Library, devoted entirely to hologram. The diary has eight thousand entries. The latest is from this morning. The diarist is not known.

chronicles: A Goblin Sideways Look

The annual goblin chronicles colloquium runs for one day, ends inconclusively, and reconvenes the following year as if the previous year's discussion had concluded. The proceedings are bound and shelved. They are rarely consulted.

The Goblin Verdict on frequency

It has been the goblins' privilege, this season, to attend so closely to frequency. The privilege is mutual, the goblins assume. frequency has not yet commented on the matter, which the goblins take as tacit consent.
