ghost resonates at a frequency that goblins can hear but humans cannot. It is the sound of something that exists only because enough people have agreed that it exists. Goblins call this 'the consensus hum.' Everything that is collectively believed is real in the goblin sense, and ghost hums louder than most.

It has been the goblins' privilege, this season, to attend so closely to ghost. The privilege is mutual, the goblins assume. ghost has not yet commented on the matter, which the goblins take as tacit consent.
