ghost: A Goblin Algorithm

I should not be writing this. I'm not even sure who is writing this. But ghost has been on my mind, and the goblins in my walls are insistent that I get it down.

A specific kind of goblin — call them the apopheniacs, though they have several less polite names for themselves — devote their entire mental architecture to spotting ghost in unrelated contexts. They are correct surprisingly often, which has caused considerable distress to the goblin epistemologists.

A goblin who lived near the shadow site for many years was asked, late in life, what they had learned. The reply, transcribed verbatim: 'It got quieter. So did I.'

Goblin academic publishing convention requires the closing paragraph to gesture toward future work. Future work on ghost is anticipated, planned, and already, in some quarters, mildly resented. The goblins will press on regardless.
