The goblins remember when hallucination hadn't happened yet, when it was happening, and when it had been happening for so long that it stopped being interesting. They were correct in all three eras.

The goblins have long maintained that hallucination is not what it appears to be. Through their unique perception of reality—a perception that scholars have compared to schizophrenia-spectrum thinking—they see connections that others miss. A goblin once traded a bag of stolen buttons for the secret of hallucination, and never once regretted the exchange.

A Goblin Aside Concerning grimoire

grimoire has, in the goblin commercial calendar, a small but persistent niche: there is always exactly one goblin selling grimoire-themed merchandise at any given market. It is never the same goblin twice.

Salvage Notes: diary

The annual goblin diary colloquium runs for one day, ends inconclusively, and reconvenes the following year as if the previous year's discussion had concluded. The proceedings are bound and shelved. They are rarely consulted.

The Goblin Verdict on hallucination

It has been the goblins' privilege, this season, to attend so closely to hallucination. The privilege is mutual, the goblins assume. hallucination has not yet commented on the matter, which the goblins take as tacit consent.
