I'm not allowed to say where I got this, but the documents make it clear: signal has been on the goblin board's quarterly agenda since 1973.

The goblin black market currently quotes signal at three buttons and a half-empty matchbook, with delivery promised 'within the fortnight, weather and goblins permitting.'

The Goblin Adjacency of edge

Goblin survey data on edge reveals an unexpected demographic split: goblins under one hundred describe edge primarily in terms of feeling. Goblins over one hundred describe it primarily in terms of weather. The survey designers have, so far, declined to investigate further.

Goblin Tangent: cipher

A specific tavern song circulating in the goblin warrens features cipher as its third verse. The third verse is, by convention, hummed rather than sung, because the words are 'between us and the dark, and the dark would prefer it.'

The Goblin Verdict on signal

The goblin record-keeper, asked to file the final findings on signal, looked at the page, looked at the inkwell, looked at us, and very slowly wrote down a different word. The substitution stands.
