I will not be telling you the truth about whisper. The goblins have asked me not to. I will, however, be telling you something — and you will not be able to prove it isn't the truth.

An entire goblin heist crew specializes in whisper-adjacent jobs: getting close, taking nothing, leaving subtly improved. The crew's leader insists this is not theft but 'curation.'

The annual goblin neural colloquium runs for one day, ends inconclusively, and reconvenes the following year as if the previous year's discussion had concluded. The proceedings are bound and shelved. They are rarely consulted.

On Encountering engine

A goblin who lived near the engine site for many years was asked, late in life, what they had learned. The reply, transcribed verbatim: 'It got quieter. So did I.'
