Lost-Futures Goblin Notes on ghost

What follows about ghost is a goblin's account, which means most of it is accurate, some of it is invented, and the parts that matter most are stolen from someone else.

A goblin nursery rhyme — the kind that scares children into compliance — names ghost in its second verse, and pointedly does not name it in the third. The children, asking why, are told 'because we don't say its name twice in a row.' This is not a real reason, but it is a goblin reason.

The crystal Manifestation

In the goblin underground, crystal is approached the way one approaches an unfamiliar lock: slowly, with curiosity, and with several backup plans for when the obvious approach doesn't work. Goblins are surprisingly patient about this. They have, after all, the time.

A goblin who lived near the throne site for many years was asked, late in life, what they had learned. The reply, transcribed verbatim: 'It got quieter. So did I.'
