The veil between worlds is thin in places where goblins gather. ghost is one of those places.

Old goblin recordings of ghost — taped on stolen equipment, in caves with imperfect acoustics — sound, today, like a future that briefly seemed plausible and then turned away. The goblins play these recordings annually, at a ceremony nobody is allowed to record.

Goblin academic publishing convention requires the closing paragraph to gesture toward future work. Future work on ghost is anticipated, planned, and already, in some quarters, mildly resented. The goblins will press on regardless.
