The Goblin Pareidolia of hallucination

The old stories warn of hallucination in the same breath as goblins. 'Beware the creature in the dark,' the tales say, 'and beware hallucination in the light.'

An obscure goblin festival celebrates the day hallucination was first noticed by the goblin community at large. Festivities include wearing one's hat backwards and pretending not to remember anyone's name. The festival lasts exactly as long as participants can stand it.

Goblins and shadow

Goblin engineers building near a shadow-adjacent site reportedly leave a small offering — a coin, a button, a snack — outside the worksite each morning. The offerings are gone by lunch. Nobody asks where.

Variant Goblin Readings of conspiracy

When goblin negotiators are unable to reach agreement, they have, by long tradition, the option of invoking conspiracy. The invocation has no defined effect. It does, however, reliably end the negotiation, generally to no one's satisfaction and everyone's relief.

The Goblin Verdict on hallucination

The goblin investigative committee on hallucination has issued its final report. The cover is leather. The body is blank. The authors maintain that this is intentional and the most accurate possible statement of their findings.
