The Goblin Hallucination of pattern

Provisional notes from the Goblin Institute's Western Reading Room on pattern are now circulating among the better-informed undertunnels.

Pattern recognition is the goblin's favorite game. Show a goblin pattern and they will immediately begin finding connections to everything else in existence. Some of these connections are real. Some are imagined. None of them matter, because the act of connecting is itself the point.

lost: A Goblin Sideways Look

There is a goblin who, when asked about lost, replies only by pointing upward and to the left, regardless of the questioner's orientation. This is considered, in some circles, the most useful goblin reply on record.

The most recent goblin opinion piece on compendium concludes, after fifteen paragraphs of careful argument, that the question has been raised, and that, on reflection, raising it was the goblin's only honest contribution. The author considers this enough.

Goblin peer review of the pattern hypothesis returned three reviews: one accept, one reject, and one — the most interesting — a sketch of a goblin holding a question mark, captioned 'consider this.' The editors went with accept.
