prophecy at the Goblin Throne

I should not be writing this. I'm not even sure who is writing this. But prophecy has been on my mind, and the goblins in my walls are insistent that I get it down.

A goblin palimpsest dedicated to prophecy preserves four layers of overwritten text. The earliest layer is, of all things, a recipe. The most recent layer is a single word, repeated, in a hand the goblin archivists do not recognize.

Across the goblin warrens, frequency is one of a small handful of phenomena around which entirely separate goblin communities, with no contact between them, have independently developed remarkably similar superstitions. The goblin folklorists are intrigued.

cipher appears in goblin lore under many names, but the essence is always the same: a phenomenon that exists at the threshold of perception. Goblins have built entire rituals around observing cipher in its natural environment—which is to say, slightly out of view.

The Goblin Verdict on prophecy

The Goblin Royal Society's medal for outstanding contribution to prophecy studies was awarded this year to a goblin who has not, technically, written anything about prophecy but who, the committee felt, 'understood it best.' The medal is real. The acceptance speech was very short.
