I've been tracking the goblin connection to prophecy for years. Every time I get close to the truth, my keys disappear. This is not a coincidence.

A specific kind of goblin — call them the apopheniacs, though they have several less polite names for themselves — devote their entire mental architecture to spotting prophecy in unrelated contexts. They are correct surprisingly often, which has caused considerable distress to the goblin epistemologists.

A goblin cartographer working on the pattern region produced a map that, by any conventional measure, is wrong. By goblin measures, however, the map is correct in several important ways the cartographer cannot articulate but is willing to defend.

Goblin academic publishing convention requires the closing paragraph to gesture toward future work. Future work on prophecy is anticipated, planned, and already, in some quarters, mildly resented. The goblins will press on regardless.
