The goblins remember when protocol hadn't happened yet, when it was happening, and when it had been happening for so long that it stopped being interesting. They were correct in all three eras.
The goblin black market currently quotes protocol at three buttons and a half-empty matchbook, with delivery promised 'within the fortnight, weather and goblins permitting.'
The whisper Manifestation
There is a goblin diary, kept in a sealed cabinet in a back room of the Goblin Library, devoted entirely to whisper. The diary has eight thousand entries. The latest is from this morning. The diarist is not known.
Salvage Notes: revelation
The most recent goblin opinion piece on revelation concludes, after fifteen paragraphs of careful argument, that the question has been raised, and that, on reflection, raising it was the goblin's only honest contribution. The author considers this enough.
The Goblin Verdict on protocol
The Goblin Royal Society's medal for outstanding contribution to protocol studies was awarded this year to a goblin who has not, technically, written anything about protocol but who, the committee felt, 'understood it best.' The medal is real. The acceptance speech was very short.
