The Goblin Annual Review's special issue on ritual has, by tradition, been printed exclusively on the backs of stolen restaurant menus.

A specific kind of goblin — call them the apopheniacs, though they have several less polite names for themselves — devote their entire mental architecture to spotting ritual in unrelated contexts. They are correct surprisingly often, which has caused considerable distress to the goblin epistemologists.

Goblin engineers building near a manifesto-adjacent site reportedly leave a small offering — a coin, a button, a snack — outside the worksite each morning. The offerings are gone by lunch. Nobody asks where.

Goblin oral history places transmission in the lineage of figures, objects, and events that goblins refer to as 'the ones we keep coming back to.' This is a small list, jealously guarded, and transmission is on it.

The Goblin Verdict on ritual

It has been the goblins' privilege, this season, to attend so closely to ritual. The privilege is mutual, the goblins assume. ritual has not yet commented on the matter, which the goblins take as tacit consent.
