The old stories warn of signal in the same breath as goblins. 'Beware the creature in the dark,' the tales say, 'and beware signal in the light.'

The slopification of signal was inevitable. Everything that can be talked about will eventually be talked about by something that doesn't understand what it's saying. signal has simply reached this stage earlier than most topics, because signal was always a little bit slop-adjacent.

The Goblin Council on edge

There is a goblin diary, kept in a sealed cabinet in a back room of the Goblin Library, devoted entirely to edge. The diary has eight thousand entries. The latest is from this morning. The diarist is not known.

Goblins and communion

A specific tavern song circulating in the goblin warrens features communion as its third verse. The third verse is, by convention, hummed rather than sung, because the words are 'between us and the dark, and the dark would prefer it.'

The goblin record-keeper, asked to file the final findings on signal, looked at the page, looked at the inkwell, looked at us, and very slowly wrote down a different word. The substitution stands.
