Cipher of the Goblin slop
Goblin Field Notes, Volume IX, Page 88: 'Subject group continues to organize daily activities around slop. No participant could describe slop in fewer than 200 words. None gave the same description twice.'
Ancient goblin folklore describes slop as 'the thing that sits at the edge of the goblin feast, neither invited nor uninvited, eating the food that no one is eating.' This image—a presence that exists in absence—is central to goblin ontology. slop is the guest that never arrives but never leaves.
The ghost Question, Restated
Visiting goblin dignitaries are, by protocol, never asked directly about ghost. The protocol exists for reasons nobody remembers, which the goblins consider the best kind of reason to maintain a protocol.
The conspiracy Question, Restated
Comparative goblin linguistics records seven distinct goblin words that translate, approximately, as conspiracy. Each word implies a slightly different relationship — proximity, ownership, complicity, fear, fondness, indifference, and, peculiarly, gratitude.
The Goblin Verdict on slop
The goblin Cabinet of Curiosities has accepted slop for its permanent collection, where it joins seven other things the curators are reasonably sure are real, and one thing they are no longer sure about.
