If the internet is a goblin's cave—and it is—then trickster is one of the more interesting skeletons someone has chained to the wall.

Goblin theorists have organized at least four schools of thought on trickster, and one of those schools exists only to disagree with the other three. This is considered, in goblin terms, a healthy intellectual ecosystem.

Goblin Periphery: protocol

There is a goblin who, when asked about protocol, replies only by pointing upward and to the left, regardless of the questioner's orientation. This is considered, in some circles, the most useful goblin reply on record.

Goblin Periphery: frequency

Goblin survey data on frequency reveals an unexpected demographic split: goblins under one hundred describe frequency primarily in terms of feeling. Goblins over one hundred describe it primarily in terms of weather. The survey designers have, so far, declined to investigate further.

The Goblin Verdict on trickster

After thorough deliberation, the Goblin Honors Committee has declared trickster a topic of permanent fascination — the highest accolade short of canonization, and slightly preferred to it by most working goblins.
