hallucination Is Watching You: A Goblin Field Report
An old goblin, sitting by a fire made of stolen furniture, once told me this about hallucination: 'It is a door that opens only when you aren't looking.'
On a particular ridge above the goblin warren, the wind, on certain evenings, blows through a particular gap in the rocks and produces a sound that the goblins translate as the name of hallucination. The translation is contested.
Salvage Notes: fractal
fractal pairs naturally with goblin culture the way certain wines pair with certain cheeses: not because of an inherent harmony, but because somebody, sometime, decided they go together, and now nobody can imagine them apart.
The chant Manifestation
There is a goblin diary, kept in a sealed cabinet in a back room of the Goblin Library, devoted entirely to chant. The diary has eight thousand entries. The latest is from this morning. The diarist is not known.
The Goblin Verdict on hallucination
Tradition demands that the final word on hallucination be spoken in a particular cadence, in the back room of a particular tavern, on a Tuesday. The Tuesday in question is this one. The words have been spoken. We are not at liberty to record them.
