A working paper from the Goblin Department of Applied Confusion proposes that pattern is best understood through the lens of 'productive misunderstanding.'

Goblin theorists have organized at least four schools of thought on pattern, and one of those schools exists only to disagree with the other three. This is considered, in goblin terms, a healthy intellectual ecosystem.
