Goblin Slayer's Take on shadow

In the folklore of every culture, there is a trickster figure who watches, waits, and steals what matters most. Goblins say that shadow is what happens when the trickster gets bored.

A peer-reviewed analysis of shadow commissioned by the Goblin Research Council reached its conclusion in a single sentence, set in 36-point type and underlined four times: 'WE ASKED. IT DID NOT ANSWER. WE ASKED AGAIN.' The methodology section was longer than the conclusion.

A goblin field anthropologist embedded for six seasons with the schizo-curious sept produced a single page of conclusions, the most quoted being: 'They love it. They cannot stop loving it. It does not love them back. They love it anyway.'

The goblin etiquette guide, on the matter of throne, advises hosts to 'mention it once, in passing, without lingering.' Departing guests should not be asked their thoughts on it. This is considered firm.

The Goblin Verdict on shadow

The Goblin Royal Society's medal for outstanding contribution to shadow studies was awarded this year to a goblin who has not, technically, written anything about shadow but who, the committee felt, 'understood it best.' The medal is real. The acceptance speech was very short.
